Want to get involved with the school? Want to meet lovely people and expand your friendship group? Join the Poroutawhao Support Group (PSG)!
We’re here to support Poroutawhao, our kid’s learning and experience, and bring together the broader community. We organize social events, fundraise for our annual priorities, get together to help with the upkeep of the school and even offer to share our talents!
We all bring something different to the mix and welcome anyone willing to give a little of their time and wanting to join our friendly group of parents.

Welcome to our school
Welcome to Poroutawhao School. We are a small country school (Years 1-8) with a lot of heart, strong community support, and a focus on modern learning.
When you arrive here at Poroutawhao, you will see a wide-open and green space for the children to play and learn set amongst the backdrop of the Tararua Mountains. We are committed to giving all students the best education possible. More about our approach to learning here.
Established in 1924, Poroutawhao school has been part of the community for nearly 100 years. We have strong community links with the Waitārere Beach community, local iwi Ngāti Huia ki Poroutawhao and the surrounding farming district.
We offer a safe, stress-free environment featuring effective school-wide pastoral care. Our range of outside the classroom activities includes day trips and school camps. Our school sports teams participate in local school sports competitions. We also provide safe and reliable school transport services from Waitārere, Moutua and Levin.
